Rhinoplasty
Few features shape a first impression quite like the nose. Positioned at the center of the face, it influences symmetry, proportion, and the overall harmony of your appearance. For many patients, rhinoplasty — commonly known as a “nose job” — is one of the most personally meaningful procedures they will ever undergo.
What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes the nose to improve its appearance, its function, or both. The surgery can address a wide range of concerns: a dorsal hump along the bridge, a bulbous or drooping tip, asymmetrical nostrils, a nose that appears too wide or too narrow for the face, or breathing difficulties caused by structural irregularities. Whether the goal is a subtle refinement or a more significant transformation, rhinoplasty is tailored entirely to the individual — no two procedures are alike.
Is Rhinoplasty
RIGHT FOR YOU?
Rhinoplasty is a deeply personal decision, and the best outcomes come when the procedure aligns with realistic expectations and a clear understanding of your own goals. The following can help you determine whether you may be a suitable candidate.
Good candidates for rhinoplasty are adults in general good health whose facial growth is complete — typically from the age of 17–18 onward. Ideal candidates are bothered by specific aspects of their nose’s size, shape, or proportion, have difficulty breathing due to a structural issue, do not smoke (or are willing to quit prior to surgery), and approach the process with clear, realistic expectations about what surgery can and cannot achieve.
Patients choose rhinoplasty for a variety of reasons — aesthetic, functional, or both. Cosmetically, they may wish to reduce a nasal hump, refine a wide or asymmetrical tip, correct a crooked nose, or achieve better facial balance. Functionally, the surgery may be performed to correct a deviated septum, repair damage from prior trauma, or alleviate chronic nasal obstruction that affects breathing and quality of life.
How it Works
Rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia and is tailored entirely to your anatomy and goals. Dr. Dyrmishi will have mapped out every detail of your procedure during your consultation, so by the time you arrive for surgery, there is a precise, personalised plan in place. Here is what the process looks like from start to finish:
- Consultation and planning — Your goals, nasal anatomy, and medical history are assessed in depth, with digital imaging used where helpful to align expectations and guide the surgical plan.
- The surgery — Using either an open or closed technique depending on complexity, Dr. Dyrmishi carefully reshapes the underlying cartilage and bone to achieve the desired contour, with incisions kept as discreet as possible.
- Immediate recovery — A small splint is applied post-surgery to protect the new shape; swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes are normal and begin to subside within the first one to two weeks.
- Long-term healing — Most patients return to work within 7–10 days, with final results continuing to refine gradually over the course of a full year as residual swelling completely settles.

Frequently Asked Questions
In open rhinoplasty, a very small incision is made at the base of the columella — the narrow strip of skin between the nostrils. This heals remarkably well and, in most cases, becomes virtually invisible within several months. In closed rhinoplasty, all incisions are made inside the nostrils, leaving no external scarring at all. Dr. Dyrmishi will recommend the most appropriate technique for your anatomy and goals.
Most patients are surprised by how manageable their discomfort is. The nose tends to feel tender and congested rather than acutely painful in the days following surgery. Prescribed pain relief is provided, and the majority of patients find that over-the-counter medication is sufficient after the first few days. Sleeping with your head slightly elevated in the early days helps reduce swelling and discomfort.
You will notice a visible difference relatively quickly, but rhinoplasty results evolve gradually. Most swelling resolves within two to three months, giving you a good sense of your result. However, the nose continues to refine and settle over a full 12 months — sometimes longer — before the truly final result is apparent. Patience is an important part of the rhinoplasty process.
Absolutely. This is one of Dr. Dyrmishi’s most significant areas of expertise. Procedures such as septoplasty (correction of a deviated septum) and turbinate reduction can be combined with cosmetic rhinoplasty in a single operation. This means you can address both the look and function of your nose simultaneously, with one recovery period.
